US Women's Soccer Team To Play Final Send-off Match Against Costa Rica Ahead of 2024 Olympics
The U.S. women's soccer team is set to play a final send-off match against Costa Rica on July 16th at Audi Field in Washington, D.C. The match is the last of four friendlies to be played by the team and will be part of their preparation for the Paris Olympics under the guidance of new head coach Emma Hayes.
Hayes To Join Team Following End of Season
Hayes, who led Chelsea in England's Women's Super League, aims to steer the team back to the top after being knocked out of the World Cup in the last 16 by Sweden last year. She is set to join the team in May after finishing the season with Chelsea and will take over from interim coach Twila Kilgore.
US Women's Team in Good Form Ahead of Olympics
The team has been in good form, winning both the CONCACAF W Gold Cup and the SheBelieves Cup earlier this year under Kilgore. The upcoming match against Costa Rica will follow friendlies against South Korea on June 1st and Mexico on July 13th. June 1st will be Hayes’ first match with the team.
US Women to Compete Against Zambia in Olympics
The Olympics are set to be a challenge for the team, where they have been placed in the same group as Australia, Zambia, and 2016 Olympic champions Germany. The team are looking to take home the gold medal, which they last won in 2012 after bringing back the bronze medal in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. The U.S women’s team begin their Olympic journey on July 25th where they will compete against Zambia.
