Tesla Recalls Nearly All Cybertrucks Over Panel Detachment Risk

Tesla is recalling more than 46,000 Cybertrucks in the U.S. due to a safety issue with an exterior panel that can detach while driving, creating a road hazard. The recall, covering nearly all Cybertrucks built between November 2023 and February 2025, marks the eighth recall for the model since its release. Tesla will replace the affected part for free, using a new adhesive and additional reinforcements to prevent the panel from detaching. The company has received about 150 related complaints but reported no crashes or injuries.

The recall comes as Tesla struggles with declining sales and growing backlash against CEO Elon Musk. Attacks on Tesla showrooms, charging stations, and vehicles have increased, with authorities linking some incidents to rising political tensions. U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi announced that three individuals would face charges for setting fire to Tesla cars and charging stations, labeling the acts "domestic terrorism." Meanwhile, viral videos have shown Cybertruck owners peeling off the faulty panel with their hands, further damaging the vehicle’s reputation.

Tesla's stock has dropped significantly in 2025, reflecting investor concerns over the company’s future. Analysts say the Cybertruck, initially expected to boost Tesla's market position, has struggled with delays, quality issues, and waning demand. While the recall is unlikely to impact Tesla's overall financials, it adds to the growing perception that the automaker is facing a "tornado crisis moment" amid rising competition and brand damage from Musk’s political associations.
