Roblox Plans to Open Office in Turkey After Content Ban
Roblox the popular online gaming platform has announced that it plans to open an office in Turkey if the country allows access to the platform again. This follows a ban by Turkish authorities in August 2024 due to concerns that some of the content on Roblox could be harmful to children.
Turkey's Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunc explained that the ban was necessary to protect children while an investigation into the platform was being carried out. In response Roblox has said it is committed to following local laws and is working closely with Turkish authorities to bring the platform back.
"We believe Roblox can offer a positive space for learning, creativity and connection in Turkey" said a Roblox spokesperson. The company plans to hire a team in Turkey including local language moderators to better follow the country's laws and meet its specific needs.
The ban on Roblox came not long after Turkey also blocked access to Instagram for similar reasons. By opening a local office Roblox is showing it is ready to follow Turkish regulations and improve content oversight.
Roblox is hopeful that it can soon restore access to users in Turkey and continue supporting its players and developers. The company stresses that the safety of its community is its top priority while they work towards a solution.
