Premier League Confirms Two-Part Summer Transfer Window Ahead of Club World Cup

Premier League Confirms Two-Part Summer Transfer Window Ahead of Club World Cup

The Premier League has confirmed its summer transfer window will be split into two periods to accommodate the expanded Club World Cup. The window will open from June 1st-10th before pausing for five days and then resuming from June 16th until September 1st. This allows Chelsea and Manchester City, both participating in the tournament, to register new players before heading to the U.S., while keeping the league’s transfer timeline in sync with other major European competitions.

All 20 Premier League clubs can conduct transfers during the early window, not just those involved in the Club World Cup. FIFA has also introduced a mid-tournament registration period from June 27th to July 3rd for knockout-stage reinforcements. This raises questions about players like Trent Alexander-Arnold, whose contract with Liverpool expires on June 30th, and Kevin De Bruyne, who may face uncertainty over where he will play next if he does not extend his deal with Manchester City.

The revamped Club World Cup kicks off on June 15th and will now be held every four years, featuring 32 teams. FIFA has allocated £774m ($1bn) in prize money, with the winners earning up to £97m ($125m). While discussions were held about closing the transfer window earlier, Premier League clubs unanimously agreed to align with the European deadline of September 1st.
