PlayStation State of Play Summer Showcase: Everything Announced, From God of War Laufey to Marvel’s Wolverine

Sony has officially kicked off the summer gaming showcase season with a packed, 60-minute State of Play broadcast. Delivering a barrage of reveals, release dates, and gameplay deep-dives, the presentation mapped out an incredibly stacked lineup for the remainder of 2026 and gave a tantalizing look into 2027.
Headlining the event were massive new entries in the God of War and Until Dawn franchises, alongside blood-drenched footage of Insomniac's upcoming Wolverine project.
The Heavy Hitters: God of War and Wolverine
The biggest reveal of the broadcast came from Sony's Santa Monica Studio, which unveiled God of War Laufey. For both returning fans and newcomers, this mainline entry introduces an unexpected protagonist. Faye (Laufey the Just), warrior, wife to Kratos, and mother to Atreus is taking center stage. The extended 20-minute gameplay trailer revealed that death is not the end for her; instead, she must battle hostile divine factions across a magic-soaked afterlife to safeguard her loved ones. The game features Deborah Ann Woll reprising her role as Faye, alongside a talking gelatinous cube voiced by Jack Quaid.
Insomniac Games opened the showcase by premiering over seven minutes of raw gameplay for the single-player action-adventure Marvel’s Wolverine. Described as a more linear experience compared to the studio's open-world Spider-Man titles, the footage was unapologetically violent and drenched in blood.
“With the fate of humans and mutants hanging in the balance, Logan knows the world needs a hero,” PlayStation wrote. “However, they’ll have to settle for Wolverine.”
The presentation highlighted Logan’s brutal claw-based combat and offered a look at mutant task force Team X. This includes the telekinetic Jean Grey, who teams up with Logan for devastating dual takedowns against the cybernetic, mutant-hunting Reavers.
Surprise Sequels, Remakes, and Revivals
In a completely unexpected announcement, Firesprite Games has revealed that they are developing Until Dawn 2. Slated for a 2027 launch, this standalone horror sequel introduces a brand-new cast consisting of a reality TV ghost-hunting crew exploring an abandoned tropical island, where a slasher-killer figure turns up.
Saber Interactive generated major nostalgia by reviving a classic racing series with Stuntman: Hollywood. The game puts players in the shoes of a stunt performer tackling intense driving levels inspired by legendary television and film properties.
“Stuntman: Hollywood is built on the speed and control of an arcade racer, the spectacular chaos of crashes and destruction, and the precision a difficult stunt demands,” it said.
The levels will utilize popular Universal intellectual properties, including Fast & Furious, Back to the Future, and Knight Rider.
Ubisoft also ended weeks of internet leaks by officially confirming Rayman Legends Retold, a 3D reimagining of the 2013 platformer, will be arriving on October 1st. The remake features couch co-op for up to four players, a completely voiced cast, an expanded soundtrack, and a mysterious new realm alongside classic stages.
“Retold reimagines the beloved platformer with stunning 3D visuals, a brand‑new world, Kung Foot, and legendary co‑op fun,” Ubisoft said.
A Packed September and October Release Schedule
The broadcast confirmed that the fall window of 2026 is going to be incredibly busy, with a wave of major release dates finalized:
- Dune: Awakening (Sept 22nd): The open-world survival game lands on PS5 with an exclusive single-player mode and scalable difficulty options.
- Control Resonant (Sept 24th): Remedy Entertainment shared a story trailer for the reality-bending sequel, “offering a deeper look into a world no longer bound by the rules we understand,” ahead of its global launch.
- Silent Hill: Townfall (Sept 24th): Developed by Screen Burn, the psychological horror title drops a new trailer introducing a character named Zoe who communicates via a CRTV device, as well as a new creature stalking the darkness.
- Onimusha: Way of the Sword (Sept 25th): Capcom’s supernatural samurai title locked in its date, and a 30-minute playable demo highlighting mechanics like the Parry, Issen, and soul absorption went live on the PlayStation Store immediately during the broadcast.
- Dynasty Warriors 3: Complete Edition Remastered (Oct 1st): A modern PS5 revival combining the base game and its Xtreme Legends expansion.
- Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve (Oct 2nd): Bandai Namco's aerial simulator features 30 real and fictional aircraft. Deluxe Edition owners get early access starting September 28.
- No Rest for the Wicked (October): Moon Studios' visceral action-RPG leaves early access for its full 1.0 console launch, boasting over 100 hours of content, an overhauled class system, and Souls-like combat.
Delays and Changing Release Windows
While some games locked in their slots, others shifting schedules caused a bit of confusion during the broadcast.
Phantom Blade Zero creator Soulframe has clarified a conflicting release window. The fast-paced action-RPG shifted its launch date from early September to October 29th to allow for final polishing of the game, with the developer promising a dedicated State of Play presentation later this summer.
“I want to offer my sincere apologies to all the players who have been following and supporting us,” Soulframe stated. “This was not an easy decision. More than anyone, we understand the expectations our players have placed on us. And precisely because of those expectations, we do not want to release Phantom Blade Zero knowing there is still an opportunity to take it one step further.”
Similarly, Crystal Dynamics shared a new Unreal Engine 5 look at Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis. While the trailer gave a February 12th release date, accompanying details confirmed the highly anticipated remake has technically been pushed out to a broader 2027 window.
