Olympic Rings Displayed On Eiffel Tower 50 Days Before Start Of Paris Olympics 2024
With 50 days to go until the Paris 2024 Olympics, the Eiffel Tower has been given a new look featuring the iconic Olympic rings.
The installation, made of recycled French steel, was unveiled on June 7th and is 29 metres wide and 13 metres high. Positioned between the first and second floors of the 135-year-old monument, the rings are lit up every night with 100,000 LED bulbs.
The Olympic rings' installation involved around 200 workers and security agents who worked through the night to ensure it was ready by morning. The rings, which are each nine metres wide, will remain on the tower throughout the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The Olympic Torch Relay and the unveiling of the rings are set to transform Paris and rally the nation for the upcoming games, which will run from July 26 to August 11.
The Eiffel Tower will also serve as a backdrop for several Olympic events, including beach volleyball which will occur at its base. Pieces of steel from the tower are also being used in the medals for the Paris 2024 Games, adding a unique touch to the awards.
As the city gears up for the games, visitor numbers to the Eiffel Tower have surged, reflecting the growing anticipation surrounding the games. The Paris 2024 Olympics promise to be a historic event, celebrating both the athletic prowess of competitors and the iconic beauty of the French capital.
