Mike Tyson v Jake Paul Fight Postponed After Tyson Suffers Health Issues On Flight
The highly-anticipated boxing match between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson, scheduled for July 20 at AT&T Stadium in Texas, has been postponed.
The decision came after Tyson, 57, suffered an ulcer flare-up that has prevented him from training. Tyson, who was travelling from Miami to Los Angeles, experienced nausea and dizziness on the flight, prompting medical attention and the boxer being recommended to lighten his training program for several weeks.
Both fighters have expressed their commitment to rescheduling the bout. “"Both Mike and Jake are in agreement that it is only fair to ensure that both athletes have equal training time to prepare for this important match and are able to compete at the highest level. The health and wellbeing of athletes is our top priority, and we fully support Mike in taking the necessary time to allow him to perform at the level he expects of himself,” said promotion company Most Valuable Promotions (MVP).
Jake Paul, 27, fully supported the postponement, stating, "My fans know I don't want to face Iron Mike at anything but his best."
The event which will be live on Netflix, was also set to feature a rematch between light-welterweight champion Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano. It is expected that the fight will move to the new date with the rest of the fight card.
MVP has assured fans that a new date for the fight would be announced on June 7.
Despite the delay, Tyson remains optimistic about his return. "My body is in better overall shape than it has been since the 1990s, and I will be back to my full training schedule soon," he said. "Jake Paul, this may have bought you some time, but in the end, you will still be knocked out."
The postponement has disappointed fans but will mean that Tyson can recover fully and compete at his best. Both fighters are eager to reschedule and promise an unforgettable match once Tyson is back in fighting shape.
