Met Police Investigates Strictly Come Dancing Over Drug Use Claims

Met Police Investigates Strictly Come Dancing Over Drug Use Claims

The BBC has referred allegations of cocaine use by two Strictly Come Dancing stars to the Metropolitan Police, starting a police investigation into the dance show. A Met spokesperson confirmed they "received an allegation about drug related offences" on the 4th August, and said the investigation is still in early stages and that no arrests have been made at this point. The BBC had launched its own internal probe earlier this month, bringing in law firm Pinsent Masons to lead the inquiry.

The claims reportedly stem from a legal submission made in March by law firm Russells on behalf of former contestant Wynne Evans, who was dropped from the show after apologising for “inappropriate language.” Others have also claimed that drug use took place one the show, with one celebrity claiming that it was “well known on the show that two stars took cocaine.”

This latest scandal adds to a string of controversies that have recently surrounded Strictly, including a high-profile bullying complaint involving ex-dancer Giovanni Pernice in 2024. While some complaints were upheld, the show has since introduced new welfare measures, such as full-time chaperones during rehearsals to reduce the risk of further incidents.

The BBC has repeatedly declined to comment on the current ongoing investigation into the drug use claims but reaffirmed the broadcaster’s commitment to “clear protocols and policies” when handling serious complaints.
