Macrons to Present Scientific Evidence in U.S. Court to Refute Candace Owens’ Claims That Brigitte Was Born Male
French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte, are taking legal action in the U.S. against right-wing influencer Candace Owens over her repeated claims that France’s First Lady was born male. The couple plans to submit scientific and photographic evidence, including expert testimony and family records, to prove the allegations are false. Their lawyer, Tom Clare, called the process “incredibly upsetting” but said Brigitte is “100% ready to meet that burden” to clear her name.
Owens, who has millions of followers, said in 2024 that she’d stake her “entire professional reputation” on the claim and is facing the lawsuit in Delaware. Her legal team has filed a motion to dismiss, arguing the case was wrongly filed in that state and would cause her “substantial financial and operational hardship.” The Macrons allege that Owens ignored credible evidence and instead chose to platform “known conspiracy theorists and proven defamers.”
The conspiracy began with a 2021 YouTube video and was revived after the Macrons won — then lost on appeal — a similar case in France. Emmanuel Macron defended the U.S. suit, saying, “This is about defending my honour… with the aim of causing harm, in the service of an ideology and with established connections to far-right leaders.”
