Jennifer Lopez Files For Divorce From Ben Affleck
Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are calling it quits after two years of marriage, according to court documents filed by Lopez on Tuesday.
The Hollywood power couple, famously known as "Bennifer," rekindled their romance nearly two decades after their first engagement ended in 2004. They married in Las Vegas in July 2022, followed by a grander ceremony in Georgia a month later.
Lopez, 55, officially listed the date of separation as April 26, 2024, and no prenuptial agreement was mentioned in the filing.
Rumours of a split began circulating earlier this year when the couple was seen without their wedding rings and reportedly put their Beverly Hills mansion up for sale. Speculation about their relationship intensified when Affleck was absent from major events like the Met Gala, where Lopez served as co-chair.
Lopez had addressed the rumours back in May, brushing off questions during a press conference in Mexico for her Netflix film "Atlas," saying, "You know better than that."
Despite her attempt to quell the speculation, the couple’s relationship seemed to be on shaky ground for months.
Affleck, 52, has three children from his previous marriage to actress Jennifer Garner, while Lopez shares 14-year-old twins with singer Marc Anthony. Both stars have had high-profile relationships and marriages in the past, with Lopez having been married three times before her marriage to Affleck.
Their love story has always captured public attention. The pair first met while working on the 2003 film Gigli and quickly became one of Hollywood’s most talked-about couples. After their split in 2004, they both moved on to other relationships, only to find their way back to each other nearly 20 years later.
When they finally tied the knot in 2022, Lopez said, "Love is beautiful. Love is kind. And it turns out love is patient. Twenty years patient."
Now, it seems that patience has run out. The court has given Lopez 60 days to submit her financial information, with Affleck required to do the same afterward. If they fail to report or update their finances, they could face court-imposed sanctions.
Despite the end of their marriage, the legacy of Bennifer remains a significant chapter in Hollywood history—a reminder of how love can both endure and evolve over time, even if it doesn’t always last forever.
