HBO’s Harry Potter Series Reveals First Wave Of Star-Studded Cast

The highly anticipated Harry Potter TV series has officially revealed the first wave of its cast, and the lineup is packed with award-winning talent. John Lithgow will take on the role of Albus Dumbledore, while Janet McTeer steps in as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu will portray Severus Snape, and Nick Frost has been cast as the beloved half-giant Hagrid. Luke Thallon joins the cast as Quirinus Quirrell, and Paul Whitehouse will play the ever-grumpy Argus Filch.
“We’re delighted to have such extraordinary talent onboard, and we can’t wait to see them bring these beloved characters to new life,” said showrunner Francesca Gardiner and executive producer Mark Mylod. The series promises to be a “faithful adaptation” of J.K. Rowling’s bestselling books, giving the story room to explore more detail than the original films, which remain a core part of the franchise.
Filming is expected to begin this summer, though casting for the iconic trio — Harry, Ron, and Hermione — is still under wraps, following an open call that reportedly drew over 30,000 hopefuls. The series will stream on HBO Max and aims to introduce the wizarding world to both longtime fans and a new generation.
