Gas Pipeline Fire Near Kuala Lumpur Injures Over 140

A massive fire at a gas pipeline in Putra Heights, near Kuala Lumpur, caused widespread destruction and injuries on Tuesday. The blaze, which erupted around 8:10 a.m., sent towering flames and a fireball into the sky, visible from miles away. Authorities said at least 145 people were injured, with many suffering from burns and respiratory issues. The fire, which damaged 190 homes and 148 vehicles, forced dozens of families to evacuate as flames reached as high as 20 stories. The gas pipeline was isolated by Petronas, Malaysia’s state energy firm, to control the fire, and the situation was declared under control by the afternoon.

Witnesses described chaos as the explosion sent debris flying, shattering windows and shaking buildings. "All of a sudden, we heard a loud bang and then total chaos," said one resident. Many were forced to flee their homes, with some even injured while escaping. The fire occurred during the second day of the Eid holiday, further disrupting the area. Emergency services evacuated residents and temporarily closed nearby gas stations as a precaution.

Although the fire was eventually contained, the damage to homes and property is significant, and investigations into the cause are ongoing. Local officials have pledged to restore the area, but it may take up to a year to fully recover. Petronas has assured that it is working with authorities to ensure the safety of the community and secure the gas supply.
