Dan Wootton Leaves GB News, Launches Independent Platform for Unregulated Commentary

GB News presenter Dan Wootton has left GB News to launch his own platform, titled “Dan Wootton Outspoken”.

In a statement on X, Wootton said: “I have left GB News to launch my own independent platform Dan Wootton Outspoken which will feature a brand new daily news and opinion show from later this year that will NOT be regulated by the Ofcommunist censors. Free speech in Britain is in peril!”

GB News has confirmed Wootton’s departure from the channel in a note sent to staff: “Dan Wootton joined GB News before its launch and was a part of the first on-air line up. Dan is no longer employed by GB News, and we thank him for his contribution and wish him well with his future endeavours.”

“Dan Wootton Tonight” Broke Broadcasting Rules, Says Ofcom

The announcement comes a day after media regulator Ofcom found that a segment of his show “Dan Wootton Tonight” on GB News in September broke broadcasting rules when politician Laurence fox made “clearly and unambiguously misogynistic” comments about journalist Ava Evans. Ofcom also found that Wootton’s limited challenging of Fox’s comments exacerbated the potential for offence by “contributing to the narrative in which a woman's value was judged by her physical appearance” rather than mitigating it. Wootton was suspended by GB News following the incident, with Fox being sacked a week later. This is not the first time GB News has been investigated by Ofcom, with a Q&A session with the Prime Minister also being investigated earlier this year for not providing a range of views on the episode.

In response to the findings, Wootton said: How can any broadcaster or publisher truly stand for freedom of expression when state goons have the power to decide what you are and are not allowed to say on air? It's not broadcasters who should be fearful of a carpeting from Ofcom: it's Ofcom that should be summoned in by this supposedly Conservative government to be reined in."

What is “Dan Wootton Outspoken”?

According to Wootton’s statement on X, “Dan Wootton Outspoken” is set to be a platform providing daily news and an opinion show that will be added to the platform later in the year.

Although the presenter didn’t disclose many details of his plans for his new platform, a website has been set up by Wootton offering a range of paid subscription plans on the platform. These range from a free tier which only includes public posts, all the way up to a £150-a-year “Founding Member” tier, which includes access to the subscriber only posts, group Zoom calls with Wooton, and personalised video messages.
