Salah calls out Uefa over wording of tribute to 'Palestinian Pele'

Mohamed Salah, a Liverpool forward, has called out Uefa over a tribute to Palestinian footballer Suleiman al-Obeid, which it did not mention in a social media post that failed to mention the facts surrounding his death. According to the Palestinian Football Association (PFA), Obeid was killed in an Israeli attack while waiting for humanitarian assistance in the southern Gaza Strip the previous day. According to the PFA, the 41-year-old, nicknamed Pele of Palestinian football, scored more than 100 goals during his career, including two in 24 international matches.

Following the Hamas-led attacks on Gaza on October 7, 2023, killing nearly 1,200 people and taking 251 others hostage, Israel launched its military offensive in Gaza. Salah has previously called for humanitarian assistance to Gaza, and has called on global leaders to prevent further slaughter of innocent souls in the conflict.
