Overturned lorry forced M6 motorway closure

When the M6 motorway in Staffordshire spilt diesel, it caused the closure of the road. The crash, shortly after 22:00 BST on Friday, killed the northbound carriageway between junction 14 and junction 15 on the A500 to Stoke-on-Trent. The HGV then turned over and spilled the fuel, according to Staffordshire Police. Officers said there were no injuries and National Highways (NH) said shortly after midday lanes three and four had re-opened with a reduced speed limit, but that the highway will be shutting down later today.
Following the carriageway's partial reopened, heavy delays of 90 minutes were recorded in the area. The lorry has been recovered, according to NH, but lanes one and two will remain out of service until a complete closure is implemented overnight, allowing for resurfacing work. Because of the diesel fire's effects, lane four on the southbound side will also be closed.
The top layer of the road surface had been planed away due to extensive damage caused by the spilled fuel, according to Dale Hipkiss of NH.
