Call Of Duty Games Modern Warfare 3 And Warzone Could Appear At Esports World Cup

Tv with CoD Warzone on the screen

As the start of the Esports World Cup (EWC) continues to get closer, rumours have emerged that suggest that Call of Duty may be joining the list of games included in the competition. The EWC, a massive competition taking place over eight weeks in Riyadh, has the largest prize pool in esports history.

Dataminers Find References To CoD On Tournament Website

Although Call of Duty wasn't initially listed among the participating games, recent findings suggest it could feature Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone tournaments with nearly $3 million in prizes combined.

Jacob Hale from Dexerto revealed that dataminers discovered references to Call of Duty on the tournament's website:

“Name\“:\“COD: MW3\“,\“PrizeMoney\“:[\“$$1,800,000\“],\“StartDate\“:\“2024-08-15\“,\“EndDate\“:\“2024-08-18\”

“Name\“:\“COD: Warzone\“,\“PrizeMoney\“:[\“$$1,000,000\“],\“StartDate\“:\“2024-07-03\“,\“EndDate\“:\“2024-07-06\”

Although this information has been removed from the site, Dextero says they have verified with sources that a Warzone tournament with a $1 million prize pool could happen in early July, followed by a Modern Warfare 3 event with a $1.8 million prize in mid-August. However, the presence of Call of Duty at the tournament has not been confirmed by the Esports World Cup.

Problems Surrounding The Addition Of CoD To Esports World Cup

However, there are problems surrounding the potential addition of Call of Duty to the EWC. The Call of Duty League's terms prevent teams from participating in non-CDL tournaments, which could block Call of Duty from joining the Esports World Cup with teams from the League being unable to compete.

There has also been so indication of how the tournament would work, but the potential for the game to join the EWC and the prize money involved has attracted the attention of the Call of Duty pros.

The Esports World Cup, boasting a total prize pool of $60 million, has already sparked debate within the esports community. Some fans and teams criticise the involvement due to Saudi Arabia's human rights record. However, with the largest prize pool in esports history, fans and players have been drawn to the competition.

An official announcement is yet to be made, but with the first proposed event date approaching quickly, more details are expected soon. The inclusion of Call of Duty would add another layer of excitement to the already diverse lineup of games at the Esports World Cup.
