Bryony Page Brings Home Team GB's First Olympic Gold In Trampoline

Bryony Page made history by winning Great Britain's first Olympic gold in trampoline at the Paris Games, completing her collection of medals. The 33-year-old, who had previously won silver at Rio 2016 and bronze at Tokyo 2020, scored 56.480 points in the final at Bercy Arena. Her stunning performance, filled with high difficulty moves and flawless execution, left her in disbelief when her score topped the leaderboard.

Page's win came after a dramatic turn of events. As the penultimate competitor, she was initially overjoyed, thinking she had secured gold prematurely. The final gymnast, China's Hu Yicheng, faltered by bouncing off the trampoline early in her routine, confirming Page's victory.

"It sounds amazing," Page said. "I had quite a difficult build-up, anticipating this competition for a long time."

Olympic Gold Is Most Recent Success For Page

This gold medal adds to Page's impressive career, which includes multiple World Championship titles. Despite struggling with an ankle injury and a neck twitch during podium training, she delivered a routine that wowed the judges and audience alike. Her triumph was celebrated by a crowd of flag-waving fans who cheered as she received her gold medal and sang along to the national anthem.

Page’s journey has been marked by both physical and mental challenges. She has faced injury setbacks and battled the "twisties," a mental block similar to what gymnast Simone Biles experienced. Despite these hurdles, her determination and love for the sport kept her pushing forward.

"It was a really tough time not being able to do the skills I wanted to because my mental block was stopping me," she shared.

Page Aspires To Join Cirque di Soleil

Beyond her athletic achievements, Page dreams of joining Cirque du Soleil. Even after winning gold, she still has aspirations to perform as an acrobat.

"My plan is to continue [trampolining]," she said. "I love trampolining and I love trying new skills and I've still got a few more achievements that I want to achieve personally."

Page's gold medal is a testament to her resilience and dedication. With her eyes set on possibly competing in the LA 2028 Olympics, she remains open to pursuing her dream with Cirque du Soleil.

"Speaking with the talent scouts, the opportunity is still there. If I love it and also feel like I can make a comeback in trampolining, I will do that," she said.
