Banksy's Latest London Mural: A Green Oasis Amidst Urban Landscape

A new piece of work from British street artist Banksy was discovered in London this weekend. Located on a building near Finsbury Park, north London, the mural depicts a person holding a spraying device that is dripping green paint that has sprayed the wall. When standing in certain positions, the green paint aligns with a tree positioned in front of the wall, giving the illusion of lush foliage. A photo of the mural was posted to Banksy’s official Instagram account on Monday, where Banksy usually claims responsibility for his art.

The piece has drawn the attention of residents, passersby and political figures. Wanja Sellers, a local resident, expressed pride in having the mural in their neighbourhood, saying, "It feels like a personal message to us residents, we just feel so proud." Former Labour Party leader, Jeremy Corbyn, who represents the area, said “Banksy has come to Islington! What wonderful artwork, proving there is hope for our natural world everywhere,” in a post on X.

It has been noted by viewers that the paint is the same colour that is used by the Islington Council for signs in the area, giving a nod to Bansky’s eye for detail. Islington councillor Flora Williamson praised the artwork, noting its contribution to the local culture and intrigue. Islington Council’s graffiti removal team is reportedly aware of the artwork and will not be removing it.
