Summer is Coming: ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ Season 2 Sets June Filming Wrap
BELFAST, NI — The drought in the Reach is nearly over, at least on camera. HBO’s breakout Game of Thrones prequel, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, has officially locked in its production timeline for its sophomore outing, with filming scheduled to wrap in June 2026.
The news, first reported by Deadline, confirms that the series is moving at a brisk pace following the massive critical and commercial success of its debut season earlier this year. By concluding principal photography this summer, the production remains firmly on track for a high-priority 2027 premiere on HBO and Max.
The Sworn Sword Takes Shape
Season 2 will adapt George R.R. Martin’s second Dunk and Egg novella, The Sworn Sword. Shifting away from the tournament grounds of Ashford, the new episodes find Ser Duncan the Tall (Peter Claffey) and his squire, Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell), navigating a brutal summer drought in the Reach while entangled in a bitter land dispute between two ancient houses.
To capture the parched, sun-scorched landscape of the Reach, production has expanded beyond its home base in Belfast. Sets have recently been spotted at the Presa de Las Niñas Dam in Gran Canaria, Spain, where crews have constructed medieval structures out of pine logs to stand in for the ancestral seats of Standfast and Coldmoat.
New Faces in the Reach
The "wrap" announcement comes alongside several major casting updates that have sent the A Song of Ice and Fire fandom into a frenzy.

“I’m having a lot of fun with Season 2,” showrunner Ira Parker told The Hollywood Reporter in January. “It’s going to be a different season—smaller in scope but deeper in character. We’re dealing with the fallout of the first season’s heroics in a very grounded way.”
A Tighter, Leaner Westeros
Despite the rising costs of production, Parker confirmed that Season 2 will maintain the six-episode format that defined the first season. This "smaller can be better" philosophy has been a hit with audiences, who praised the first season for its intimacy compared to the sprawling political maneuvers of House of the Dragon.
Season 1 Recap:
-
Premiere Date: 18th January 2026
-
Final Episode: 23rd February 2026

Critical Standing: 94% on Rotten Tomatoes
The 2027 Horizon
While HBO has not yet set a specific month for the return, the June wrap date provides a comfortable 12-to-18-month window for post-production. This schedule mirrors the "every other year" release pattern HBO has established for its Game of Thrones spin-offs, likely alternating 2027 with the fourth season of House of the Dragon in 2028.
For fans, the wait may feel long, but with cameras currently rolling in the Spanish sun, the legend of Ser Duncan the Tall is well on its way to its next chapter.
