Back to Her Roots: Spice Reclaims the Dancehall Throne with ‘Clean & Fresh’

KINGSTON, JAMAICA — After a spiritual sabbatical that saw her trading the sound system for the sanctuary, the "Queen of Dancehall" has officially returned to her throne. Spice (Grace Hamilton) has released her high-octane new single, "Clean & Fresh," marking a decisive return to the genre she has dominated for over two decades.

The track, which premiered globally on Monday 23rd February 2026, follows a brief but powerful "gospel detour" earlier this year. The release signals that while the superstar has found a new sense of faith, her signature blue-haired boldness and dancehall grit are here to stay.

The “Clean & Fresh” Movement

Produced by the powerhouse duo DJ Mac and CRASH Drummy, "Clean & Fresh" is built over the infectious WYFL Riddim. The song quickly ascended the charts, hitting No. 1 on the iTunes Top 100 Reggae Songs within 24 hours of its release.

Unlike her more risqué previous hits, "Clean & Fresh" focuses on a lifestyle message of self-respect, hygiene, and the power of presence.

“Clean and Fresh is about owning your presence, honoring your body, and stepping into every moment with freshness, freedom, and fearless self-love,” Spice said in a statement. “Real authentic dancehall.”

The Spiritual Reset

The pivot back to dancehall comes after a transformative start to 2026, which Spice dubbed her "Month of Grace." Following a near-death health crisis in late 2022 that led to a prolonged recovery, the singer opened the year with the faith-driven anthem "God Don't Play About Me" on 9th January.

The gospel release, which featured a visual of Spice in a pulpit surrounded by her family and Love & Hip Hop co-stars, was a public testimony of her survival. While many fans wondered if she was leaving secular music behind permanently, Spice clarified that her evolution is about "recalibration, not reinvention."

A Busy 2026 Slate

Spice is not just making noise in the studio; she is also preparing for a massive return to the stage. After spending much of late 2025 focused on humanitarian efforts—including providing building supplies for families in St. Elizabeth and Westmoreland following the devastating Hurricane Melissa, she is now shifting focus back to live performance.

  • Global Tour: Spice is slated to headline several major European festivals this summer, including DLT Malta in June and a return to London in July.

  • The Look: Along with the new music, she has brought back her signature "Spice Blue" aesthetic, moving away from the auburn "soft girl" look she adopted during her gospel release.

  • The Stats: With over 433 million YouTube views and a historic 2025 run where she was named "Performer of the Year" across all genres by World Music Views, the Queen remains one of the most streamed female artists in Caribbean history.

As "Clean & Fresh" begins to dominate Caribbean airwaves, it’s clear that Spice’s 2026 chapter will be defined by a unique balance: the gratitude of a survivor and the unapologetic energy of a dancehall legend.
