According to the RSPCA, more than 250 poodle-cross dogs have been found in a single house.
The numbers and living conditions of the dogs, which were discovered at an undisclosed location in the United Kingdom, had rapidly grown out of control in the midst of escalating family circumstances," the animal welfare charity said.
In reaction to scores of social media posts claiming it was fake, it also said a shocking
picture taken by a rescuer – showing hundreds of the dogs crammed into a living room – was not created by AI.
The photograph depicts the staggering truth
of the RSPCA's multi-animal cases, which have risen by 70% in England and Wales since 2021, according to the RASPCA.
In the last year, the charity said it had responded to 4,200 incidents that involved at least 10 animals at the same address.
The dogs' kennel and sore skin were found at Radcliffe Animal Centre in Nottingham, which took in some of the dogs.
In a social media post, "Some were so afraid we had to carry them from their kennels to the grass.
"This shocking snapshot is the truth of several multi-animal cases, and the challenge our frontline officers seem to be facing is getting more challenging, with reports of incidents involving 10, 20, 100 and even 100 animals on the rise.
"We know that people are so afraid of what they are seeing. This image isn't AI - it's real.
"This is the shocking truth of what can happen when even well-meaning owners become overwhelmed - overbreeding can take over, and conditions can spiral out of control.
The RSPCA said it was unable to disclose additional details about the owners' situation, but that they had reached out because they were "overwhelmed.
Due to the circumstances and the owners' highly fragile nature,
it said, it would not have been appropriate to bring a lawsuit.
According to the charity, large numbers of animals being held at one address could be attributed to mental health issues, the cost of living crisis, or breeders that follow poor practices.
According to a 2025surveyby the Dogs Trust, poodle-cross dogs, also known as doodles,
have increased in popularity in recent years, making up the top three breeds owned by dog owners.

The RSPCA took 87 dogs from the RSPCC, 87 of the 250 dogs rescued at the property, according to the RASPCA, while the rest went to the Dogs Trust.
The dogs that had been taken in had been sent to centres in Hertfordshire, Surrey, Norfolk, and Nottinghamshire, according to the RSPCA.
Two of the dogs, Stevie and Sandy, are currently available for adoption from the RSPCA's Southridge Animal Centre.
Stevie is blind and deaf, and she needs to be rehomed with the other, who has been her tour guide.
