Princess of Wales Returns Home After Abdominal Surgery
The Princess of Wales has returned home to Windsor after successful abdominal surgery two weeks ago, according to a statement from Kensington Palace.
The 42-year-old princess underwent the planned operation at The London Clinic on January 16, with a spokesperson stating, "The Prince and Princess wish to say a huge thank you to the entire team at The London Clinic, especially the dedicated nursing staff, for the care they have provided." The palace confirmed the surgery was not related to cancer, but the exact details were not disclosed.
Catherine is not expected to resume her official duties until after Easter. In the meantime, Prince William has temporarily stepped back from his royal role to support her and care for their three children. The King, who recently underwent a corrective procedure for an enlarged prostate at the same hospital, visited Catherine during her stay.
While the 75-year-old monarch remains in hospital, he will focus on state matters and handle government papers but will not carry out duties for up to a month after being discharged.
The news of Catherine leaving the hospital was welcomed by the prime minister, Rishi Sunak, who stated, "That would be welcome news both to the royal family and I'm sure to the public more widely." The princess is making good progress, and the Wales family expresses gratitude for the worldwide well wishes they have received during this time.
