'Law Boss' Detained: Dancehall Star Chronic Law Taken Into ICE Custody

The Caribbean music community is in a state of shock following reports that Jamaican dancehall sensation Chronic Law has been detained by United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The artist, whose real name is Ackeem Campbell, was reportedly taken into custody on Monday January 12th 2026, and remains in federal detention as of Thursday evening.

The 32-year-old St. Thomas native, often referred to by fans as the "Law Boss," was the most-streamed artist in Jamaica throughout 2025. His detention marks a sudden and jarring halt to a period of unprecedented professional success.

The Georgia Connection

While ICE has yet to release a formal statement regarding the specific grounds for his detention, investigators are pointing toward a previous run-in with the law. Public records reveal that Campbell was arrested in November 2025 following a high-speed pursuit in Turner County, Georgia, approximately two hours south of Atlanta.

During that incident, he was slapped with a litany of traffic-related charges, including:

  • Fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer

  • Reckless driving

  • Speeding (in excess of state limits)

  • Improper lane change

Under the current U.S. administration’s tightened immigration policies, even non-violent criminal charges can trigger a transfer to ICE custody if a non-citizen's visa status is brought into question during the legal process.

Rumors vs. Reality

Social media has been a whirlwind of speculation since a mugshot of the entertainer began circulating on Wednesday. While some bloggers have alleged that firearms were found during the Georgia traffic stop, local authorities in Turner County have only confirmed the driving offenses.

Sources close to the "Empty" singer’s camp have sought to downplay the severity of the situation. "The case is not as serious as people are making it out to be," one associate told DancehallMag, explicitly denying the rumors of gun charges. However, the fact remains that Campbell’s name currently appears on the official ICE Detainee Locator, listed as being held in a Florida facility.

A Bad Week for the 6ixx Camp

Chronic Law’s detention follows the arrest of another associate, Radijah Risk (Henry Ryan Armstrong), who was booked in Orange County, Florida, on January 8. Unlike Chronic Law, Radijah Risk is facing more severe allegations, including possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and possession of cocaine.

Industry in Limbo

Efforts to reach Chronic Law’s manager, Alexandre "Bashy Law" Jones, have so far been unsuccessful. The dancehall industry is watching closely, as Campbell's legal status could affect several high-profile festival appearances scheduled for the spring of 2026.

As of press time, no timeline has been provided for an immigration hearing or potential deportation proceedings. For now, the man who dominated the 2025 charts finds himself silenced behind the walls of a federal processing center.
