“Other Rounds”: Halle Berry Confirms Storm’s Absence from ‘Avengers: Doomsday’—But Eyes a Future Return
HOLLYWOOD, CA — The weather forecast for the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s next major crossover is looking a bit less thunderous. Academy Award winner Halle Berry has officially addressed the mounting rumours regarding her involvement in Avengers: Doomsday, confirming that, as of now, her iconic version of Storm will not be appearing in the film.
While promoting her upcoming action-thriller Crime 101 (trailer below) alongside Chris Hemsworth, Berry expressed a mix of nostalgia and disappointment regarding her exclusion from the massive production, which is currently deep in development for a December 2026 release.
“Keep Waiting”
The speculation reached a fever pitch last spring after Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige teased that the "legacy" cast for Doomsday was still expanding. However, during a recent red carpet appearance and a candid interview with ScreenRant, Berry was blunt about her name missing from the call sheet.
“While I’m sad I won’t be in Doomsday this round, there are other rounds,” Berry stated. “And I would do that in a heartbeat. Storm is a very special character to me. I’ve been so blessed whenever I’ve gotten to play her.”
When pressed during a BBC Radio 1Xtra appearance about whether Ororo Munroe might make a surprise multiversal appearance, Berry turned to her Crime 101 co-star Hemsworth with a laugh before finally shutting the door: “Keep waiting. It’s not going to be there.”
The Snub Rumors
Berry’s absence is particularly striking to fans given the confirmed return of several of her original X-Men co-stars. Figures like Patrick Stewart (Professor X) and Ian McKellen (Magneto) are reportedly locked in, leading to social media theories that Berry was "passed over" during negotiations.
Adding fuel to the fire, Berry recently revealed that she was never approached for 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine, despite Blake Lively reportedly mentioning the idea to her at a fashion show.
“I said, ‘Yeah, if [Ryan Reynolds] asked me,’ but he never asked me,” Berry noted back in August, suggesting a disconnect between her willingness to return and the studio's current casting priorities.
Hope for ‘Secret Wars’?
Despite the "no" for Doomsday, Berry’s mention of “other rounds” has pointed fans directly toward 2027’s Avengers: Secret Wars. As the planned finale to the Multiverse Saga, Secret Wars is expected to feature virtually every surviving hero from the Fox, Sony, and Disney eras of Marvel.
Industry insiders suggest that while Doomsday may focus on a specific team-up between Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and a select group of mutants to face Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom, the door remains wide open for a grander "X-Men" reunion in the following installment.
A Busy 2026 for Berry
While Storm may be sitting this battle out, Berry’s 2026 remains packed. Her film Crime 101—which critics are already calling the "first great film of 2026"—is set to hit theaters on 13th February. The film features a "cat-and-mouse" game between Berry and Hemsworth, with early reactions praising their explosive on-screen chemistry.
For now, the white wig remains in the vault. But in a cinematic universe where the multiverse makes anything possible, fans are holding onto Berry’s promise: if the call finally comes, the Storm will return.
