‘I Want to Do Whatever’: Doja Cat Plans Three-Year Hiatus Following ‘Tour Ma Vie’ Finale

LONDON — The "Matrix" of modern pop is preparing to go offline. In a candid new interview with ELLE UK published on Thursday, Doja Cat revealed her intention to step away from the music industry for at least three years once her current global commitments conclude.

The 30-year-old rapper and singer, born Amala Dlamini, is currently in the midst of her ambitious Tour Ma Vie World Tour, supporting her fifth studio album, Vie. However, despite the album’s critical success and the tour's sold-out status, Doja admitted that a "major reset" is necessary to reclaim her personal life.

‘A House With Nothing In It’

Speaking from a brief hiatus between tour legs, Doja expressed a desire to swap the recording studio for interior design and visual arts. She noted that her rapid rise to superstardom since 2018’s "Mooo!" has left little time for the domestic stability she now craves.

“I think I want to take three years off,” Doja told ELLE UK. “I want to just do whatever. I might do another mural. I’m going to furnish this whole upper area of my house because there’s literally nothing in here and there’s been nothing in here for four or five years.”

The star’s comments highlight the growing conversation surrounding creative burnout in the industry, following similar hiatus announcements from peers like Adele and Lorde in recent years.

The ‘Vie’ Era So Far

The news of a hiatus comes while Vie (French for "life") continues to dominate the charts. Released in September 2025, the 15-track album, produced in part by Jack Antonoff, has been hailed as a "masterful blend" of 80s nostalgia and sharp-tongued rap.

The record features standout tracks such as the lead single "Jealous Type" and the ethereal SZA collaboration "Take Me Dancing." Despite the album's romantic and "mature" themes, Doja's latest remarks suggest that the project served as a definitive closing chapter for this stage of her career.

The ‘Tour Ma Vie’ Roadmap

The Hiatus Jan 2027 – 2030 Confirmed (Tentative)

London Calling

UK fans will have one final chance to see the performer before her disappearance from the spotlight. The European leg of the tour is set to resume on 19th May at Dublin’s 3Arena, before arriving at London’s The O2 on 29th May.

Industry insiders suggest that ticket demand for the remaining dates has spiked following the hiatus news, as fans scramble to witness what may be her last live performances until the end of the decade.

The Verdict

Doja Cat has never been one to follow the traditional pop star blueprint, often using social media to challenge fan expectations and the nature of fame itself. By setting a definitive three-year boundary, she is prioritising her mental health and creative autonomy over the relentless pressure of the "release-and-tour" cycle.

For a musician who has spent the last five years as a viral fixture of the digital age, a three-year silence might be her most provocative act yet.
