Crossing the Rubicon: Jon Jones Joins Russian Bare-Knuckle Promotion Following UFC Fallout

ST. PETERSBURG, RUSSIA — In a move that has effectively severed his ties with the world’s premier MMA organization, former UFC heavyweight champion, arguably known as the 'Greatest UFC Fighter of All Time, Jon "Bones" Jones has officially signed with the Russia-based IBA Bare Knuckle promotion. The announcement comes just weeks after a high-profile public dispute with UFC CEO Dana White over a snub from the historic "White House" card.

The "White House" War of Words

The defection follows a bitter month of February for the 38-year-old legend. Jones had been publicly campaigning for a spot on the UFC’s June 2026 event at the White House, a card intended to celebrate the U.S. Semiquincentennial. However, Dana White stunned the industry by excluding Jones, later claiming the fighter was "done" due to chronic hip issues and required a replacement.

Jones took to social media to push back, accusing the promotion of "lowballing" him during secret negotiations and demanding his release from his contract.

“After everything I’ve given to the UFC... hearing that I’m ‘done’ is disappointing,” Jones wrote in a series of now-deleted posts. “If the UFC truly feels like I’m done, then I respectfully ask to be released from my contract today. No more spins, no more games.”

A New Chapter in St. Petersburg

By aligning with the IBA, an organization that has been at odds with Western sporting bodies since being stripped of its Olympic status, Jones is positioning himself in a new "global home" for combat sports.

Jon Jones Career Transition

Category UFC Status (2025-2026) IBA Bare Knuckle Role
Last Active Title Heavyweight Champion (Vacated) Global Ambassador
Primary Rival Dana White / Tom Aspinall Umar Kremlev (IBA President)
Key Conflict White House Card Exclusion Seeking "Professional Respect"
Current Project Retired / Contract Dispute Permanent Co-Host (St. Petersburg)

IBA President Umar Kremlev welcomed Jones with open arms, stating the organization is dedicated to supporting elite talent that the Western "monopolies" have cast aside. Jones echoed this sentiment, thanking Kremlev for providing a "real platform" for champions.

The Legacy in Limbo

The move leaves Jones’ active fighting career in a state of unprecedented uncertainty. While he is now a face for the Russian bare-knuckle scene, he remains technically under UFC contract, which typically bars fighters from competing in rival striking promotions.

Critics argue that by joining a Russian organization amid ongoing geopolitical tensions and the IBA's controversial reputation, Jones may be burning his final bridges with the American mainstream. Supporters, however, view it as a calculated power play by the "Greatest of All Time" to maintain his leverage and income outside of Dana White’s ecosystem.

The IBA Bare Knuckle #4 main event features former UFC title challenger Yoel Romero, another veteran who successfully transitioned to the international circuit—against local favorite Vagab Vagabov.
