According to investigators, a 24-year-old British man was one of 19 people injured in a bus crash in Nepal.

In the early hours of Monday morning, the bus, which had been carrying tourists, was headed to Kathmandu when it lost control and plunged 200 metres onto the bank of the Trishuli River in the country's central Dhading district.

There were 44 passengers on board, including the pilot, 25 of whom sustained injuries, including one who sustained injuries. The bus was travelling from Pokhara, a popular tourist spot.

Authorities have confirmed they are looking into the incident's cause. The UK Foreign Office said it was assisting the family of the British soldier who was killed.

Police in Nepal reported that they had so far found nine of the bodies.

A one of its citizens was among the dead, according to local police reports, although Nepalese officials have yet to announce this.

According to Nepalese police, the wounded include a Chinese national and a New Zealander.

According to the doctors, the wounded had been admitted to hospitals in the capital. Children were among those onboard.

Authorities said multiple teams were sent to the site, including police units, the army, and a rescue team of divers.

According to BBC Nepali, 17 people died on the scene, with two others dying while receiving medical assistance.

Road accidents in Nepal are relatively common due to a variety of factors, including bad road conditions and narrow paths in mountainous areas.

In 2024, at least 14 people died after a bus travelling from Pokhara to Kathmandu fell into the Marsyangdi river in the Tanahun district.

According to a Foreign Office spokesperson, "We are helping the family of a British man who died in Nepal and are in touch with the local authorities.

Many international visitors, especially climbers, who fly there to visit a key portion of the Himalaya mountain range that includes Mount Everest, are visiting Nepal.

Mountaineering, home to eight of the world's highest peaks, is a major source of income for the country in 2024, with increasing rates fetching $5.9m (£4.4m).
