Boy, 16, 'fighting for his life' after shooting
According to police, a 16-year-old boy is in a life-threatening condition after being shot on a street in Sheffield.
South Yorkshire Police said officers were called to the London Road area at around 17:15 GMT on Monday. The teenager was taken to hospital after suffering an injury consistent with a gunshot wound.
London Road remains closed from the junction of Sitwell Place to the Crowther Place turn-off to allow for investigation work to be carried out.
"This is a tragic occurrence that has left a boy fighting for his life," said Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Chief Inspector Emma Knight. "I know many in our neighbourhood are deeply concerned."
"I want to assure residents that a dedicated team of officers and staff are working tirelessly to investigate the circumstances surrounding this attack and find those responsible."
The force announced that additional patrols would be stationed in the area over the coming days.
Speaking late on Monday night, officers said they expected local disruption on the road network to last into Tuesday as forensic investigations continued.
"We need you to work with us and give us any details you have," DCI Knight said. "This is not acceptable on our streets, so we must work together to stop it. If you see officers in the area and have questions or concerns, please do talk to them."
