A US Federal Jury has said that the GOOGLE APPS Store has violated anti-trust law
After years of Epic Games and Google battling a US Federal Jury has found that Google's App Store has violated anti-trust law.
The landmark verdict was unanimous after only 3 hours of deliberation.
Back in 2020 Epic sued Google over its game Fortnite, stating that it had a monopoly over the distribution of Apps. They stated that Google has monopoly and billing power in the Apps market and Google acted anti-competitively, further adding that Epic suffered from that behaviour.
One major fact that stood out far was people have been referring to as the "Google tax", where Google take commissions that can be up to 30% and that Google collects on transactions completed within its Apps.
This is actually a very historic victory not just for Epic but other major platforms.
Its worth noting that Epic lost a similar fight with Apple 2years ago and that ruling is under appeal in the US Supreme Court.
Google has said in a statement that it plans to challenge the verdict.
