Trump Signs Executive Order To Lift Water Flow Restrictions On Showerheads

Trump Signs Executive Order To Lift Water Flow Restrictions On Showerheads

Former President Donald Trump has signed a new executive order aimed at reversing water efficiency rules for showerheads, reigniting a long-standing personal gripe about weak water pressure. The order instructs the Energy Department to scrap a definition from the Obama era that capped the total water flow of multi-nozzle showers at 2.5 gallons per minute. Trump’s move allows each nozzle to pump that much individually, potentially increasing overall water use significantly.

At the signing, Trump said it was “ridiculous” that he had to spend 15 minutes in the shower for his hair to get wet, blaming “drip, drip, drip” showers on overregulation. “I like to take a nice shower to take care of my beautiful hair,” he said. The White House echoed the sentiment, declaring, “No longer will shower heads be weak and worthless,” and labeling past conservation efforts as part of a “radical green agenda.”

Critics, including conservation groups, argue the change is unnecessary and wasteful. Most showerheads already comply with older standards, and many manufacturers ignored the original Trump-era rule anyway. Experts also point out that poor water pressure is often caused by plumbing issues or mineral buildup, not federal regulations. Still, Trump’s order—set to take effect 30 days after formal notice—is the latest in his ongoing campaign to, in his words, “make America’s showers great again.”
