Swedish Police Detain Teen After Triple Shooting
A 16-year-old has been detained on suspicion of killing three people at a hair salon in central Uppsala, Sweden, just ahead of the city’s busy Walpurgis Night festivities. Police say the suspect fled on an electric scooter after opening fire on Tuesday afternoon, triggering a manhunt. All three victims were aged between 15 and 20. The area around the salon was quickly cordoned off, with witnesses describing rapid gunfire.
Authorities say it’s too early to confirm if the incident is gang-related, but they are looking into that possibility. One of the victims was reportedly involved in an earlier investigation tied to a planned attack against a relative of notorious gang leader Ismail Abdo. Although the victim wasn’t charged, the connection is raising questions about motive. Police are also interviewing witnesses, analyzing seized phones, and carrying out door-to-door inquiries.
The attack comes amid growing concerns about Sweden’s gang violence, especially among teenagers. The government is now pushing for tougher surveillance laws—including wiretapping suspects under 15—despite privacy concerns. “We are now gathering information,” the Swedish Prosecution Authority said. Police have reassured the public that the Walpurgis celebrations will continue, but have urged attendees to stay alert.
