Police Confirm No Crime Committed Over Lewis Hamilton "Sabogate" Email
Northamptonshire Police have confirmed no criminal offences were found after investigating an email claiming Lewis Hamilton's car was being "sabotaged" by Mercedes.
The email, sent to team principal Toto Wolff and other F1 figures, alleged that Hamilton’s car was being compromised due to his decision to move to Ferrari in 2025.
Toto Wolff Says Email Did Not Come From Within Mercedes Team
Wolff dismissed the email's claims as "mad" and "irrational”, expressing disbelief that anyone would think Mercedes would sabotage one of their cars, especially when the team is working hard to compete for the championship.
Wolff emphasised that the email did not come from within the team, though its origin remains unknown.
At the Spanish Grand Prix, Wolff reiterated his stance, calling the conspiracy theorists "lunatic" and advising them to "see a shrink." He emphasised that Mercedes aims to win races and championships, and any suggestion otherwise is nonsensical.
Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur also weighed in, calling the allegations "completely irrational." He highlighted the collective effort of the team to score points and compete at the highest level, dismissing any notion of internal sabotage.
Hamilton achieved his best result of the season in Barcelona with a podium finish, which Wolff noted as a positive turn after a challenging period.
The police have advised Mercedes on handling future similar emails, while the team has reportedly hired their own investigators.
