Neuralink Raises $650 Million as Brain Chip Trials Expand

Elon Musk’s brain tech company Neuralink just secured $650 million in a new funding round, with backing from major investors like ARK Invest, Sequoia Capital, and Founders Fund. The company says this fresh investment will help expand access to its brain-computer interface tech, which is currently being tested in four clinical trials across three countries. Neuralink's first system, Telepathy, allows people with severe paralysis to control devices using only their thoughts. So far, five patients have received the implant.

The company recently launched a clinical trial in Abu Dhabi and received FDA “Breakthrough Device” status for two experimental tools — one aimed at restoring speech and another, called Blindsight, designed to restore vision even to people who’ve lost both eyes and their optic nerves. “This funding helps us bring our technology to more people — restoring independence for those with unmet medical needs and pushing the boundaries of what’s possible with brain interfaces,” Neuralink said.

Musk has been vocal about his long-term goals for Neuralink, which include telepathic communication and a deeper merge with AI. While those ambitions may still be far off bearing fruit, Neuralink is already part of a growing field of companies racing to bring brain-computer interfaces into the mainstream.
