Car Ploughs Into Crowd During Liverpool Victory Parade

A celebration in Liverpool turned tragic on Monday evening when a car ploughed into crowds gathered for the Premier League trophy parade. The incident happened on Water Street around 6pm, near the end of the 10-mile parade route. Videos from the scene showed a grey vehicle moving through the tightly packed crowd, hitting pedestrians and dragging some beneath it before stopping. Four people, including a child, were rescued from under the car by firefighters, and twenty-seven were taken to hospital — with four still described as “very, very ill in hospital,” according to Mayor Steve Rotheram.

Police quickly arrested a 53-year-old white British man from the Liverpool area, who is believed to be the driver. They’ve confirmed the crash is not being treated as terrorism, calling it an “isolated incident.” Merseyside Police Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Sims thanked emergency responders and urged people not to circulate distressing footage online.

Officials and football clubs have expressed shock at the incident and their support for those that were injured. Liverpool FC said its “thoughts and prayers are with those who have been affected,” and rivals like Everton and Manchester United echoed that sentiment. Prime Minister Keir Starmer called the scenes “appalling,” stating that “everyone, especially children, should be able to celebrate their heroes without this horror.”
