“The Biggest Movie Ever”: Alan Ritchson’s Sci-Fi Thriller ‘War Machine’ Hits Netflix Next Month

LOS ANGELES — He’s already conquered the small screen as Jack Reacher, but Alan Ritchson is preparing to take over the streaming charts with what he claims will be the "biggest movie" in Netflix history. The first full-length trailer for War Machine has officially landed, confirming that the high-octane sci-fi thriller will premiere globally on Friday 6th March 2026 (trailer below).

The film, directed by Patrick Hughes (The Hitman's Bodyguard), marks Ritchson's first major foray into the "alien hunter" subgenre, drawing immediate and feverish comparisons to the Arnold Schwarzenegger classic Predator.

A Grueling Mission Gone Wrong

Set against the backdrop of the final stage of a grueling U.S. Army Ranger selection process, War Machine follows an elite unit of recruits who find their training exercise transformed into a desperate fight for survival. The "unimaginable threat" teased in the logline appears to be a massive, otherworldly killing machine that begins picking off the candidates in a remote jungle setting.

Ritchson stars as a combat engineer identified by his callsign “81.” The trailer hints at a deeply personal stakes for the character, who is reportedly haunted by the death of his brother in a Taliban attack—a trauma that may be his only advantage against an unstoppable foe.

The “Monster” Hype

Ritchson has not been shy about his expectations for the project. In a recent interview with WIRED, the actor went on the record with a bold prediction:

“I think—and you heard it here first—it’s gonna be the biggest movie that Netflix has ever had. This movie is gonna be a monster. This is the coolest thing they've ever made, guaranteed.”

Co-star Jai Courtney echoed the sentiment, describing Ritchson’s performance as "absolutely savage" and calling the film a "high-concept powerhouse" that will blow audiences away.

A Powerhouse Ensemble

The film boasts a heavy-hitting cast that spans generations of action cinema:

  • Dennis Quaid: Playing Sergeant Major Sheridan, the grizzled officer overseeing the selection course.

  • The Recruits: Ritchson is joined by Stephan James (Homecoming), Jai Courtney (Suicide Squad), Keiynan Lonsdale (The Flash), and Daniel Webber (The Punisher).

  • Behind the Lens: Director Patrick Hughes filmed the project across the rugged landscapes of Victoria, Australia, and New Zealand, promising a visual scale rarely seen in direct-to-streaming releases.

The "New Face" of Action

Clocking in at 1 hour and 47 minutes with a hard R rating for "strong violence and grisly images," War Machine appears to be leaning into the gritty, R-rated action roots that made Ritchson a superstar in Reacher.

The film has already enjoyed a limited theatrical run in Australia beginning earlier this month, where early reviews have praised its "muscular" action choreography and its blend of military realism with sci-fi dread.

As Netflix prepares for the global launch on 6th March the industry is watching closely to see if Ritchson’s "monster" can indeed dethrone previous streaming records.
