‘If the Flood Doesn’t Kill You...’: Netflix Unleashes Terrifying First Trailer for Shark-Thriller ‘Thrash’

HOLLYWOOD, CA — Netflix has officially invited audiences back into the water—and the living room, and the flooded streets—with the heart-pounding first trailer for Thrash. The survival-horror epic, which stars Phoebe Dynevor (Bridgerton) and Djimon Hounsou (A Quiet Place: Day One), promises to be the most visceral entry in the shark genre since 2019’s Crawl (trailer below).

Directed by Norwegian filmmaker Tommy Wirkola (Violent NightDead Snow), the film is set to debut globally on the streaming platform on 10th April 2026.

A Hurricane with a Bite

The two-minute teaser paints a grim picture: a Category 5 hurricane has decimated a sleepy coastal town, leaving survivors trapped as the ocean literally moves into their neighborhoods. But the rising tide brings more than just debris.

The trailer’s standout—and most stressful—sequence features a nine-months-pregnant Lisa (Phoebe Dynevor) trapped in a submerged car while going into labor. As the floodwaters rise to the steering wheel, a dorsal fin breaks the surface of the murky water just inches from the window.

“I am not gonna have him die before he gets to take his first breath!” Dynevor’s character screams in a defiant moment that has already become the trailer's most talked-about line.

The Science of the Storm

While the premise of "sharks in the streets" might sound like B-movie fodder, producer Adam McKay (Don’t Look Up) insists there is a chilling reality beneath the spectacle.

“Marine biologists are acknowledging that climate change is altering where these predators go and how they behave,” McKay said in a statement accompanying the trailer. Thrash is an edge-of-your-seat popcorn film, but the science behind the displacement of these animals is not as implausible as we’d like to think.”

A Troubled Journey to the Surface

For industry trackers, the release of the trailer marks the end of a long "musical chairs" game for the project. Originally developed at Sony Pictures under the title Beneath the Storm (and briefly Shiver), the film was pulled from a 2025 theatrical release before being acquired by Netflix in January.

The move to streaming seems to have allowed Wirkola to lean into his signature "hard-R" sensibilities. The trailer doesn't shy away from the gore, featuring a brutal encounter where a rescue worker is pulled under by a Great White while attempting to reach a rooftop.

The Supporting Survivors

Joining Dynevor in the chaos is Djimon Hounsou as a veteran boatman and Whitney Peak (Gossip Girl) as his agoraphobic daughter, who must face her greatest fears when the sea enters her sanctuary.

Wirkola, a self-described shark obsessive since Jaws, aims to blend the "ridiculous and the awesome." If the trailer is any indication, Thrash will deliver a high-tension ride that makes Sharknado look like a cartoon and Under Paris feel like a dip in the pool.
