Young Darts Sensations Triumph at 2023 WDF Lakeside World Championships

In a thrilling showcase of talent, young darting sensations made history in Sunday’s finals at the 2023 World Darts Federation (WDF) Lakeside Championships.

At just 17, Aurora Fochesato emerged as the first Italian to conquer the Lakeside stage, securing a 2-0 victory over Krisztina Turai in the WDF Girls World Championship final. Fochesato displayed resilience, recovering from a 0-1 deficit in the second set to clinch the title with a 59.43 average.

Bradley van der Velden, the 15-year-old prodigy, mirrored Fochesato's success by claiming the Boys World Championship title in 3 straight sets. Van der Velden's strategic play and a 76 finish propelled him to a 3-0 triumph over Ireland’s Adam Dee, capping off his victory with a 69.93 average.

The Women’s World Championship witnessed Beau Greaves successfully defending her title against Aileen de Graaf with a 4-1 victory. Greaves dominated the early sets, with a standout performance in the second set, sealing it in just 47 darts. Despite a brief resurgence from de Graaf, Greaves showcased her skill and determination, securing her championship win with an 84.64 average.

Belgium's Andy Baetens lived up to his billing as the tournament favourite, outclassing Chris Landman with a commanding 6-1 victory. Baetens' exceptional performance included a remarkable 146 finish and a total of six 180s, making him the first-ever Darts World Champion from Belgium. Baetens' triumph earned him the £50,000 top prize, solidifying his status as a force to be reckoned with in the world of darts.

The 2023 WDF Lakeside Championships showcased the extraordinary talent of these young champions, adding new names to the annals of darting history.
