Voting Opens for 2024 FIFA Best Awards
FIFA has officially announced the nominees for The Best FIFA Football Awards™ 2024, celebrating the standout achievements in women’s and men’s football over the past year.
Voting is now open to fans, players, coaches, and media representatives, who will have an equal say in determining the winners across multiple categories, including Player, Coach, and Goalkeeper of the Year. The FIFA Fan Award will be chosen entirely by fans, and the FIFA Fair Play Award will be decided by an expert panel.
A major change this year also allows fans to directly vote for The Best FIFA Men’s 11 and Women’s 11 from a pool of 77 nominated players. They’ll choose players for their preferred tactical formation, with votes split evenly between fans and an expert panel. Additionally, the FIFA Puskás Award, which is now exclusively for men’s football, will be complemented by the new FIFA Marta Award, celebrating the best goal in women’s football globally.
Manchester City’s Rodri and Haaland nominated for Best FIFA Men’s Player
Manchester City stars Rodri and Erling Haaland lead the Premier League representation in the Best Men’s Player category after their club's historic fourth consecutive league title. Rodri, a Ballon d’Or winner, faces competition from the likes of Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham, who aims to become the first Englishman to win this award, and seven-time winner Lionel Messi.
Five Lionesses nominated across the FIFA Women’s awards
On the women’s side, England’s Lucy Bronze, Lauren Hemp, and Keira Walsh have been nominated for Best Women’s Player. Spain’s Aitana Bonmatí, the 2023 winner, has also returned to the shortlist. Meanwhile, Lioness Mary Earps, a two-time winner of Best Women’s Goalkeeper, is up for the award again, joined by other top performers from across the globe.
The inaugural Marta Award has drawn attention, with nominees including Arsenal’s Beth Mead for her stunning goal against West Ham and Brazil legend Marta herself. This addition further highlights FIFA’s efforts to spotlight women’s football and its growing prominence on the global stage.
Pep Guardiola and Emma Hayes nominated for best FIFA coach awards
Coaching excellence will also be celebrated. Pep Guardiola, who led Manchester City to an unforgettable season, is nominated alongside Real Madrid’s Carlo Ancelotti and Spain coach Luis de la Fuente. On the women’s side, Emma Hayes, now Olympic gold-winning USA coach, is in contention, along with Gareth Taylor of Manchester City and Chelsea’s Sonia Bompastor.
Goalkeeper nominees include Manchester City’s Ederson, Arsenal’s David Raya, and Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martínez for the men’s award. The women’s category sees familiar faces like Earps and several other standout goalkeepers vying for the honor.
With its expanded categories and emphasis on fan participation, this year’s awards promise to be a celebration of football excellence, offering fans a chance to directly influence the outcome.
Voting closes on 10th December 2024 at 23:59 CET, and the winners will be announced in early 2025.
