Trump Says He Has A Group Of Very Wealthy People To Buy TikTok
Donald Trump says he's found a buyer for TikTok and plans to reveal their identity "in about two weeks." In a recent Fox News interview, the former president described the group as "very wealthy people" and acknowledged the deal would likely need a green light from China. "I think President Xi will probably do it," he added, referencing China's approval.
This comes after months of uncertainty surrounding TikTok's future in the U.S., following a law requiring its Chinese owner, ByteDance, to divest the app's American operations or shut it down. Trump, who has delayed enforcement of the law multiple times, credited TikTok for helping his 2024 campaign and now backs its continued use. A prior deal fell through earlier this year when China pushed back against new U.S. tariffs.
While Trump didn’t name potential buyers, names like YouTuber MrBeast, investor Kevin O’Leary, and tech firm Perplexity AI have been floated. ByteDance says talks with the U.S. are ongoing but that "differences on many key issues" remain. The current deadline for a sale is set for September 17th.
