Trump Calls Musk's New America Party "Ridiculous"
Tensions between Donald Trump and Elon Musk exploded this weekend after the tech mogul officially launched the America Party, which is aimed at challenging what he calls the Republican-Democrat “Uniparty.” Trump didn’t hold back, calling Musk’s decision “ridiculous” and saying, “The one thing Third Parties are good for is the creation of complete and total disruption and chaos.” Once close allies, the fallout stems from Musk’s fierce opposition to Trump’s new tax and spending bill, which Musk claims will bankrupt the country.
Trump accused Musk of pushing a failed “Electric Vehicle Mandate” and suggested he was now “completely off the rails,” adding that third parties just “add to confusion.” The president’s recent bill, signed into law on July 4th, ended tax credits for electric vehicles and included deep cuts to healthcare and food support while boosting defense and border spending. Trump warned that Musk’s new party could threaten GOP control of Congress in next year’s midterms.
Musk’s move has already rattled investors. Azoria Partners CEO James Fishback delayed the launch of a Tesla-focused fund, citing concerns about Musk’s split focus. “This creates a conflict with his full-time responsibilities as CEO,” Fishback said. Meanwhile, the Democratic Party welcomed the rift, calling it proof that “Trump’s MAGA party is splitting at the seams.”
