Jürgen Klopp Joins Red Bull as Head of Global Soccer in 2025
Jürgen Klopp is set to take on a new role as Head of Global Soccer at Red Bull, beginning January 1st, 2025. This marks his first role since stepping down from managing Liverpool, where he led the club to immense success over nine years.
What will Klopp’s new position involve?
In his new position, Klopp will not be involved in the day-to-day operations of Red Bull's soccer clubs, but will instead provide strategic guidance about playing style, transfer strategies, and broader football operations across Red Bull’s international network of clubs, including RB Leipzig, New York Red Bulls, and Red Bull Salzburg.
He will work closely with each club’s sporting director to continue advancing the innovative philosophy Red Bull has implemented in its football ventures. His reputation for developing young players and fostering team unity will be key assets in his new role.
Klopp emphasised that while his new role differs from his previous managerial positions, his passion for the game and the people involved remains unchanged. He sees his role primarily as a mentor, working with the clubs' coaches and management teams to develop talent and enhance the Red Bull philosophy.
"After almost 25 years on the sideline, I could not be more excited to get involved in a project like this," Klopp said.
Klopp's strategic input will also extend to supporting global scouting and contributing to the development of coaches across the Red Bull network. Red Bull has expressed high hopes for the former Liverpool boss.
Oliver Mintzlaff, CEO of Corporate Projects and Investments at Red Bull, described Klopp’s appointment as "the strongest signing in Red Bull's soccer history," calling him a "game-changer" for their involvement in international soccer.
Klopp leaves behind Liverpool after incredible time with the club
During his time at Liverpool, Klopp earned legendary status, winning eight trophies, including the Premier League and Champions League. Before that, he found success with Borussia Dortmund, where he won two Bundesliga titles and reached the Champions League final in 2013. Klopp’s teams are known for their high-energy style of play, often referred to as "heavy metal" football.
Though he’s stepping away from hands-on coaching, Klopp remains a highly sought-after figure in the football world. German media have speculated that his contract may include an exit clause that could allow him to take up the post of Germany’s national team coach if the opportunity arises.
Klopp will be formally introduced at a press conference in mid-January, kicking off what many expect to be a transformative period for Red Bull’s global soccer ambitions.
