HSBC Chair Mark Tucker to Retire By End of 2025

HSBC has announced that Chairman Mark Tucker is set to retire by the end of 2025 after nearly eight years leading one of the biggest names in global banking. He’ll stay on as a strategic adviser to CEO Georges Elhedery, with the search for his successor already underway. Senior independent director Ann Godbehere said the board is focused on “identifying the best candidate” to support the bank’s next chapter.
Tucker’s time at the helm wasn’t quiet. He oversaw three CEO changes and spearheaded a major shift in strategy, pulling back from Western markets and leaning heavily into Asia. His tenure also included navigating geopolitical tensions between the U.S. and China and fending off a breakup campaign led by major shareholder Ping An. In his exit statement, Tucker said he believed “strong foundations” had been laid and that the bank would go from “strength to strength.”
