Ferrari Wins Legal Battle To Delay Enrico Cardile's Move to Aston Martin

Ferrari has successfully blocked former technical director Enrico Cardile from starting his new role at Aston Martin until July 18th, following a court ruling in Modena. The Italian team claimed Cardile violated a non-compete agreement by working with Aston Martin before his gardening leave expired, which led to legal action. Ferrari stated the court’s decision prevents their former employee from giving Aston Martin an "unjustified competitive advantage" and causing "irreparable harm" to their team.
Aston Martin, who announced Cardile’s hiring as Chief Technical Officer last July, has refrained from commenting beyond calling it a legal matter between Cardile and Ferrari. The delay means he will miss a crucial phase in developing Aston Martin’s 2026 car, which will be a significant setback for the team as F1 prepares for major regulation changes that year. Despite this, the team remains focused on strengthening its technical department.
One of Aston Martin’s biggest recent signings is legendary designer Adrian Newey, who officially started as Managing Technical Partner on March 3rd. Newey, who previously worked with Red Bull, Williams, and McLaren, is expected to play a key role in shaping the team’s future. Team principal and CEO Andy Cowell has also emphasized the importance of integrating new hires and ensuring smooth collaboration within the team.
Aston Martin is undergoing significant changes as it aims to become a title contender. The team has moved into a new factory, introduced a state-of-the-art wind tunnel, and will switch to Honda power units in 2026. Despite finishing fifth in the Constructors' Championship for the past two seasons, they are determined to improve their performance this year.
With Cardile’s delayed arrival, Aston Martin will have to move forward without him for now, but the addition of Newey and other key figures signals their intent to challenge at the front of the grid in the coming years.
