TikTok Introduces New Subscription Features for Creators

TikTok is expanding its subscription feature to enable more creators to build an audience of paying subscribers. Originally introduced in 2022 for Live creators, TikTok is now extending the subscription option to include non-Live creators as well.

TikTok Subscriptions: What’s New?

According to TikTok, the subscription feature allows creators to offer their most dedicated followers access to exclusive content, perks, and a members-only community. By using this feature, creators can strengthen their relationships with fans, encouraging more meaningful engagement and interaction.

Creators will have the ability to customise their subscription packages by offering different pricing tiers, each with tailored benefits. These packages are designed to provide value to subscribers while also giving creators more control over how they engage with their audience.

Key Features of TikTok Subscriptions

TikTok offers several key features to enhance the subscription experience:

  • Private Communication Channels: Creators can offer privileged access to various communication platforms such as Sub Space, chats, comments, and messages, allowing direct interaction with subscribers.

  • Exclusive Content: Subscribers will gain access to special content such as videos, Live sessions, and notes that are not available to the general public.

  • Community Identifiers: Subscribers can receive unique stickers and badges, which appear next to their names during Live sessions and in comments, helping them stand out as part of the creator’s community.

  • Customised Perks: TikTok also offers pre-designed perks such as performance requests, Discord roles, shoutouts, and LIVE topics. Creators can further personalise these perks to suit the needs and interests of their community.

Eligibility for TikTok Subscriptions

While this subscription feature offers new opportunities for creators, it’s currently only available to those who meet specific criteria. To be eligible, creators must:

  • Be 18 years or older
  • Have an account in good standing
  • Have at least 10,000 followers
  • Have generated at least 100,000 video views in the past month

This means that the subscription feature is geared toward more established creators with a larger presence on the platform.

Strengthening Community and Revenue

The subscription feature provides a valuable way for creators to deepen their connection with their audience and increase their revenue. As TikTok continues to grow, the platform recognises the challenges of monetising short-form video content and aims to offer more ways for creators to earn through their work.

Rolling Out to Eligible Creators

TikTok is currently rolling out its expanded subscription options to eligible creators in select regions. This expansion will provide additional tools for creators to build stronger communities and more sustainable income streams.
