Teenage boys charged after youth seen with machete in city centre

Following reports of people wielding bladed weapons in Edinburgh's city center, two teenage boys were arrested. On Friday afternoon, specialist firearms officers were sent to Rose Street, at the intersection of Hanover Street. A young man appears to be wielding what seems to be a massive machete, a short distance from other pedestrians, according to photographs from the scene. No-one was injured in the incident. On Monday, a 17-year-old boy, who was later arrested, will appear in Edinburgh Sheriff Court.

A 15-year-old boy had been reported to youth justice officials, according to Police Scotland. An investigation into the incident was ongoing, according to a police spokesperson.

I would encourage anyone who has been in the area at the time and has not yet spoken to police,
Det Insp Alan Sharp said.
