Nursery worker admits sexually abusing children

In north London, a nursery worker confessed to sexually assaulting young children. Vincent Chan, 45, pleaded guilty to 26 charges, including sexual assault by penetration, sexual assault, touching, and publishing indecent photographs depicting the most serious form of child sex abuse. According to the force, the probe into Chan began after a tip-off from a whistleblower and became one of the most harrowing and complicated cases investigated by the Metropolitan Police. Chan, of Stanhope Avenue in Finchley, will be sentenced on January 23.

The offences had caused deep shock and sadness, according to Det Supt Lewis Basford, who was in charge of the Met Police's probe. It was one of the most complicated and troubling cases that officers had investigated, according to the force. Chan began working at the nursery in 2017 and moved into a variety of capacities, including art specialist, room leader, and nursery nurse. He was charged with the care of children aged between two and four years old. Chan first came to prominence for filming the children in his care and then overlaying the video with audio. Many of the victims' families sat in the courthouse as charges were read out, with some of them in tears.
