Nintendo Music Adds Mario Kart World Soundtrack and Launches Web Player

Nintendo Music Adds Mario Kart World Soundtrack and Launches Web Player

Nintendo has rolled out a major update to its video game music streaming app, adding its most-requested soundtrack to date and drastically changing how fans can listen.

Starting today, June 2nd, Nintendo Switch Online members can officially stream the soundtrack to Mario Kart World, the hit Nintendo Switch 2 launch title that arrived nearly a year ago. The newly added collection contains 130 tracks, amounting to 4 hours and 13 minutes of music. The tracklist includes all 37 of the game's racing circuit themes, featuring fan-favorites like Whistlestop Summit and Rainbow Road, alongside power-up jingles, victory music, and battle themes.

Mario Kart World made waves by introducing a sprawling open-world "Free Roam" mode that pays homage to 40 years of franchise music. Nintendo confirmed that the eclectic tunes specific to this Free Roam mode will be added to the app on a regular basis in future updates.

Bill Trinen of Nintendo shed some light on why it took nearly a year to get the game's music onto the platform:

“I can’t go into too much detail, but I can say that it does actually take time and work to prepare soundtracks for Nintendo Music. And that soundtrack is particularly robust. It’s a matter of looking at the calendar and saying whether something might fit in or not. We’ve certainly heard that people are eager to see that on Nintendo Music.”

Stream From Your Desk or On the Road

Beyond the new music, Nintendo has addressed a massive user request by expanding the service outside of its original smartphone app.

A brand-new web app is now live at music.nintendo.com, enabling users to log in with their active subscriptions and listen directly from a PC or desktop browser. The platform has also expanded compatibility to tablets and introduced full integration for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Drivers can now navigate the catalog of gaming music through their vehicle's built-in console display or via hands-free voice controls.

The update also introduces a Spotify-style playlist builder named "My Mix." This feature automatically analyzes a user's listening history and generates a custom playlist packed with their most-played tracks.

What's Next for Nintendo?

Nintendo Music launched in October 2024 and has quickly scaled its library to preserve the musical history of more than 130 classic games, spanning everything from Pikmin and WarioWare to Luigi's Mansion and Super Mario Galaxy. The service has proven to be an unexpected runaway success. Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa recently revealed that the app's popularity has gotten so high, the company is actively considering organizing a series of official live orchestral concert tours.

The musical drop arrives just as fans grow hungry for actual gameplay updates. Mario Kart World was positioned as a permanent, evergreen title meant to drive console sales throughout the life of the Switch 2, yet it has only received minor fixes and technical tweaks since launching last year.

With a busy week of global video game showcases on the horizon, Mario fans are keeping a close eye on the company, hoping for an announcement regarding a fresh summer Nintendo Direct broadcast to outline the rest of the Switch 2 lineup for late 2026.
