Commitment to Responsible AI Education

Google emphasizes its commitment to preparing teens for an AI-driven future while prioritizing safety and responsibility. The Gemini experience ensures appropriateness and safety for young users, incorporating feedback from child safety experts and youth advisory panels.

Features and Safeguards

Content Safety Measures:

Gemini includes built-in safeguards to identify and prevent inappropriate content, such as illegal substances, ensuring a safe learning environment.

Double-Check Feature:

Upon querying fact-based questions, Gemini automatically verifies responses against web sources, promoting information literacy and critical thinking among students.

AI Literacy Onboarding:

Teen users are provided with an AI literacy video during onboarding, endorsed by ConnectSafely and FOSI, offering guidance on responsible AI usage.

Educational Enhancements

Learning Coach:

A customized version of Gemini, known as Learning Coach and powered by LearnLM, assists students with step-by-step study guidance, practice activities like quizzes, and interactive learning tools.

Trusted Sources Integration:

Extensions from OpenStax and Data Commons enabling students to access educational content from reputable sources directly through Gemini.

Implementation and Administration

Gemini will initially default for teen users within Google Workspace for Education accounts, allowing school administrators to activate the feature as per their discretion via the Admin console. This measure ensures that educational institutions maintain control over the deployment of AI technologies in their settings.
