Mystery of body dumped in forest may finally be solved in police review

A look at a decade-old murder case in the hopes of finding a victim whose remains were discovered in a remote forest. In November 2015, campers discovered part of a man's skull in Clocaenog Forest, Conwy county, resulting in the discovery of his skeleton by police. He had suffered a serious head injury and his body had been in the woods for many years, perhaps as far back as 2004. However, the man has never been identified, and North Wales Police have announced a review of the investigation, which was carried out in collaboration with the National Crime Agency, despite extensive investigations and appeals.

We can confirm an investigation into a body discovered in Clocaenog Forest in November 2015 is being investigated by North Wales Police's newly formed Major Crime Review Team,
a police spokesperson said. "The detective team is collaborating with the National Crime Agency and a nationwide team of experts to assist in identifying the man.

The man's body was discovered in Pentrellyncymer, near Cerrigydrudion, by two brothers camping in the woods ahead of the Wales Rally GB, an international motor competition. He was possibly older than 54 and between 5ft 8in (172cm) and 5fft 10in (177 cm) tall, according to forensics. According to police, his nose had been fractured at some time and he was suffering from arthritis.

After the inquiry revealed that the man had undergone two specific dental procedures, officers requested dental assistance in 2016. He had crown surgery done when the procedure was commonly performed in the United Kingdom between 1980 and 2000, according to them.

The body had likely been left there between 2004 and 2010, according to police, two years later. Detectives discovered fabric from a jumper's sold between 2000 and 2004, as well as a Marks & Spencer underwear label from 1999 to 2000 near the store. However, investigators did not rule out that the body had been dumped prior to 2004.
