Kevin Sinfield's '7 in 7 in 7 Challenge': A Remarkable Journey to Tackle MND

Kevin Sinfield's '7 in 7 in 7 Challenge': A Remarkable Journey to Tackle MND

Renowned Rugby League icon Kevin Sinfield is lacing up his running shoes once more to raise funds for those battling motor neurone disease (MND). Sinfield and his team have already raised over £8 million through three incredible endurance events, inspired by his former Leeds Rhinos teammate and fellow MND Association patron, Rob Burrow, who was diagnosed with MND in 2019.

The “7 in 7 in 7 Challenge” will see Sinfield and his team run an ultra-marathon every day for seven days in seven cities across Great Britain and Ireland. Each daily run will encompass a full marathon, with an additional mile symbolising the extra mile of support we can extend to our friends during challenging times. The goal is to complete each day's run in under four hours, with an aim to raise £777,777 for five MND based charities. The beneficiaries include the MND Association, the Leeds Hospitals Charity's appeal to build the Rob Burrow Centre for MND in Leeds, the My Name'5 Doddie Foundation, the Irish MND Association, the Darby Rimmer MND Foundation, and the 4ED campaign, supporting former rugby player Ed Slater.

Starting on December 1st 2023, the challenge will begin at AMT Headingley Rugby Stadium, departing for York Minster. The team will then travel to Cardiff, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Dublin, and Brighton before concluding on December 7th at the Mall, the traditional end point of the London Marathon. While expressing his anticipation for this physically demanding challenge, Sinfield noted that due to his commitments for the World Cup, he couldn't undertake the same level of training as before. However, he remains determined to push himself to the limit.

Sinfield's remarkable efforts have already had a significant impact on raising awareness and funds for MND, enabling the expansion of vital services and research into this debilitating disease. His unwavering commitment, inspired by his friendship with Rob Burrow and the 5,000 individuals living with MND in the UK, continues to shape his incredible legacy.
